Grilling Potatoes

You can grill potatoes right along with the meat you are cooking. It is very easy and requires almost no preparation at all. Besides, who doesn’t love a good “meat and potato” meal every now and then?

Baked potatoes:

If you want to grill baked potatoes, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. You will want to scrub the potatoes clean and spray your potatoes with cooking spray. Add a little sea salt and wrapped each potato tightly in foil. You can also add some other type of seasonings or herbs if you choose. When you place them on the grill, it is a good idea to keep them away from the highest heat. Just remember an average sized potato will take at least an hour to cook all the way through. If are using the larger baking potatoes, allow more cooking time. Another great idea for cooking potatoes on the grill is to get them started in the house and then move them over to the grill. You can microwave the potatoes until they are almost done, wrap them in foil and put them on the grill.

Slice potatoes:

Sliced potatoes are also easy to grill. They will cook much more faster than a baked potato. When slicing the potatoes, keep in mind that you want them thick enough so they are not falling through the grate. Thin sliced potatoes should be wrapped in foil packets first or placed in a grill basket. Add some oil, (olive oil works quite well) and your favorite seasonings. You might even consider sliced onions to go along with your potato slices for added flavor.

Potato wedges:

Cutting potatoes in wedges will help them cook much faster. Wrap then in foil and add in some balsamic vinegar, bacon pieces, bell peppers and even onions. If you are in a hurry, try using some of the frozen hash browns that you can buy. Add in the seasoning and wrap them in foil. This is perfect for dinner, or as a breakfast side item.

If you have potato wedges and are in a hurry, try parboiling them first before putting them on the grill. Put your wedges or slices in a pot of salted boiling water for about ten minutes. Drain them and then place them on your hot grill. You will only need to have them on the grill for about five or ten minutes before they are cooked. Season them however you wish and serve.
